Calling young scientists and engineers in grades K-5! 🧪

Join us for a day of celebrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with displays of student-led science projects, cool science demos, and learning from each other!  There are two fun ways to participate:

● First, students are encouraged to display a S.T.E.M project and present it to experts, friends, and family.

● Second, students and families are encouraged to attend the fair to view all the projects.  We will also have members of the community who have volunteered to present how they use S.T.E.M at work!

All young scientists and engineers planning to display a project at the Fair need to register with their parents' permission. Register by Saturday, March 1, 2026 in order to be guaranteed a T-shirt!

Calling young scientists and engineers in grades K-5! 🧪

Participant Information

● Grades K‐5 are welcome and encouraged to participate.

● Each student (or small group) chooses, organizes and completes one S.T.E.M fair project at home.

● Projects should be student driven – ideas should come from the students. Parent guidance is encouraged. However, parents should use their best judgment in deciding when to get involved, such as when there is a potential safety issue.  It is important that the kids be able to call the project their own.

● Students may work on their project independently, or in a small group (max 3‐4 students).

● Each participant will have an opportunity to briefly present their project to an expert and receive recognition for participating.

● A display board is required to present your results.  Display boards will be provided by the PTA.

● It's not a problem if your experiment or invention doesn't turn out the way you plan it!  In science and technology, results are frequently different from expectations.  This leads to even more discoveries!

Official Handbook for the Flora M. Singer Elementary School S.T.E.M Fair

General information about the Fair as well as project guidelines, examples of past projects, and online resources are available in the Official Handbook for the Flora M. Singer Elementary School S.T.E.M Fair.

Schedule of Events

Students can set-up their display boards in the All Purpose Room and school Gymnasium on either Friday (3/13) or Saturday (3/14).  Students do not need to attend both set-up times.  When students arrive for set-up, they will sign-in with the S.T.E.M. Fair committee.  They will receive their t-shirt and be given instructions on where to set-up their display board.

Friday, March 13, 2026

●7-8 pm:  Student set-up

Saturday, March 14, 2026

●9-9:30am:  Student set-up

●10 -11am:  S.T.E.M Fair judges will visit student display boards.  We encourage students to stand by their display board during this time.

●11am -12pm:  Once a judge has visited the student display board, the student can visit other display boards and visit the vendors with S.T.E.M demonstrations.

General Project Guidelines

Projects should be student driven.  Parent guidance is encouraged; however, parents should use their best judgment in deciding when to get involved.  It is important that the kids be able to call the project their own.

Students may work on their project independently, or in a small group (max 3-4 students).  We ask that each student register separately.  Please review the Official Handbook for the Flora M. Singer Elementary School S.T.E.M Fair available in English and Spanish for more information.

Need Project Ideas?

When it comes to choosing a topic, the sky's the limit!  The best topics come from your own genuine curiosity about how something works or why something is the way it is.  If you have trouble thinking of something on your own, the internet is full of resources to help you choose a topic.  We've added a few project ideas and useful links in the Official Handbook.

Judging and Awards

The Flora M. Singer Elementary School S.T.E.M. Fair is non-competitive.  Our goal is to encourage scientific and technological exploration and discovery and promote a deep lifelong passion for all things S.T.E.M.  Each participant will have an opportunity to briefly present their project to an expert and receive a participation prize.

Volunteers needed!

A big event like the S.T.E.M Fair wouldn't be possible without the help of numerous volunteers.  If you can spare an hour or two on the day of the fair, we would love your help.  A call for volunteers will be sent on the listserve and posted to the website closer to the event.  If you have any questions, please email sciencefair@singerpta.org.
